Description: Vintage French Santons Figurines, Christmas Nativity Set from Provence, Fouque, Aix-en-Provence, Creche, 19 pcs This charming nineteen piece Nativity set from Provence includes the Holy Family, the Wise Men, eight characters from the traditional Provençal village including the Shepherd, the Shepherdess with lamb, the Gypsy with her baby and tambourine, the Spinner, the Hunter, the Arlésienne and the old couple with bundles of twigs. In addition, there is an ox, a donkey, a camel and two sheep. Each piece is signed with the mark of the Fouque family, santon makers established in 1934 and still active today in Aix-en-Provence. Some pieces are stamped “Paul Fouque. Santonnier. Aix-en-Provence” while some other pieces are stamped “P. Fouque. Santonnier. Aix-en-Provence”. The Baby Jesus is stamped “P. Fouque. Aix”. The camel is stamped “Le Moulin à Huile”, a santon maker in Aubagne, near Marseille. Some pieces are numbered on the back.These santons are in very good condition, with the exception of signs of normal age.
