Description: This is a matched set of six porcelain Geisha pattern footed rice bowls marked 'Made in Japan'. These are of a finer well finished porcelain than most. The bowls measure 4.25" across and stand 2" high on three ball feet. They appear to be from pre-1940 period. The law of 1921 required marking with country of origin. In 1925 the law required Japan be used rather than it's Japanese name of Nippon. Beginning in 1945 -1952 items had to be marked made in Occupied Japan. This set is hand painted with Geisha in a waterfront garden with a house in the background and lanterns overhead. There is gold scroll work between the main pattern and the red rim. The feet are also painted red. The outside of the bowls have two flower clusters. There is minute trim paint loss mostly on the ball feet bottoms but no chips. I did discover a crack in one bowl and am also including a bowl that has been repaired. Note: Pieces from this era were all hand made and hand painted and not necessarily by the same person so no two pieces are identical. These items are from the estate sale of a Collector of Japanese porcelain. I am not a collector. (Listings with (A) in the title appear to be the same pattern) Please Note: I try to describe all of my items as completely and accurately as possible and provide many photos from various angles for your inspection. If you have any questions please ask before purchase as all sales are considered final. All offers will be considered.
