Vintage George Washington British & German commemorative plates: your choice!

Description: For whatever reason, a remarkable amount of the vintage George Washington china I have was made in England and Germany, and by some of their best potters as well. And that held true for the celebration of George Washington's 200th birthday in 1932. Despite, or perhaps because of, the Depression, the U.S. seems to have honored G.W. with a vengeance, if one is to measure by the number of plates, goblets, mini-statues, portraits that I have seen (or have). (I wasn't around; I arrived right after WWII.) Among them were the many potters who gathered in the Staffordshire area of England, between Birmingham and Manchester. In many cases, they manufactured the excellent plates and sent them to companies like Jonroth in New York or Tatler & Lawson in New Jersey to hand paint and/or distribute. This was true both before the 200th anniversary of Washington's birth and for some years after, with considerable interruption by WWI, the Great Depression, and WWII, in that order, and depending on the country. (Only two pieces -- perhaps the best -- are from Germany, for example.) Read more at bottom for a bit more detail about the condition of the individual plates. Washington tile, 6x6", light green, no scratches, chips, cracks or crazing. Milk glass 13-star Washington, 8-1/2" diameter, no scratches, chips, cracks or crazing. Martha & George rectangle, 11x7"; German, porcelain, handpainted, textured in several places, no chips, cracks, scratches or crazing. Martha & George round, 9-1/2"; German, porcelain, handpainted, textured in several places, no chips, cracks, scratches or crazing, sticker residue. George Washington 1732-1932 B&W plate, 11", Lamberton & Scammell, no chips, cracks, or crazing, nearly pristine surfaces front and back. G. Washington, father of his country, blue, 10-1/2", somewhat bowl-shaped, no chips, etc. George Washington, Liberty, red, 10-1/2", no chips, etc., a few very minor surface scratches. Very good condition; some "pimples" during manufacturingIndependence Hall, 1776-1976, red, made by Wedgwood in England for Avon to celebrate the Bicentennial. The plates were awarded only to Avon Representatives. The seeming brown "stain" on the right is only an unfortunate shadow. Excellent condition.George Washington with "asterisks". A fanciful design with both a scalloped rim and a hard-to-see (in photos) embossed wavy design. There is some obvious scratching in the blue of George's coat; otherwise the plate (or candy dish) is in fine condition. There is no maker's name on the back, sadly.Martha & George together. This is a handsome hand-painted plate distributed by the Capitol Souvenir Co. of Washington, D.C., or Capsco. It was founded by immigrants at the beginning of the 1900s and still exists today. One of their specialties was accenting some of their souvenirs with 22k gold. I offer several photos so you can see the outer and next ring in, as well the words "Washington, DC", which is the gold I assume to which they refer. You won't get wealthy scraping it off.George and Martha set. I would have guessed this was German, both from the quality of the work and the 3D hand touches on the paint, which I have found in German work. It may well be German plates, but it is the magnificent painting of Tatler & Lawon of Trenton, and it's a numbered set as well, 512, which is rare to see in souvenir plates. My photos don't do the plates justice; the color borders match the lovely green and gold around the edges. No crazing, chips, cracks, etc., which, again, leads me to believe they are pre-WWII (obviously) German plates made well. (I am selling other German/Tatler plates elsewhere.)Capitol at Washington, D.C. Made in England for the "Racon Wholesale Co.", no longer in existence. The plate is crazed on the back, but not on the front.Home of Mary, Mother of Washington. Made by Adams of Staffordshire (founded in 1657) for the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities. This isn't my field, but I've not seen memorabilia dedicated solely to Washington's mother, though they appear together occasionally. Nor had I seen her house before (in Fredericksburg). The plate is crazed on the back, fine on the front.Washington at Fraunces Tavern. Fraunces Tavern was a regular drinking hole for the leaders of the Revolutionary Army and is where Washington bid farewell to his officers at the conclusion of the war. Fraunces Tavern is still around and for a while sold souvenir plates. This is one of them, one of the more ornate rims but a classic simple portrait (I'm selling another with just a plain rim elsewhere). The plate is "Ambassador Ware" by the Fondeville Co. in England, made specially for Fraunces Tavern. As noted in my preface, it's nice the British don't hold a grudge, but this plate -- great in every other way -- is crazed both front and back. Maybe that's their revenge!
