Vintage Hand Carved Peacock Chinese Bakelite Mahjong Set w/ 4 racks, dice, coins

Description: Beautiful vintage Chinese Bakelite Mah Jongg Set. (Also spelled Mah Jong, Mahjongg, and Mah Jongg.) I believe it is from the 1930s but could be as new as the 1960s. It could be a MS Cowan Mahjong set but I’m not sure. The set includes: 144 Bakelite tiles - Complete set of yellow butterscotch colored, hand-carved tiles with bright colors and great detail. I believe that all the tiles are original. They are in overall nice condition. Some have a few small nicks/flea bites and show wear from use. Please see photos for details. Each tile measures approximately 1.25” long x 7/8” wide x 1/2” thick. The set features the Standing Peacock One Bam. The Flower and Season tiles are bright and clear and depict a lovely storyboard with a unique, special significance. They might depict Chinese warriors, maybe? Or maybe depicting home and travel? Pair of vintage tiny dice. Note that the side of the die marked "1" has no paint -- it's instead just an indentation. And the "4" side has red dots. Vintage smooth mahjong coins in four colors and with round holes. 4 vintage Marblette black racks with coin holders made by Marblette Corporation in Queens, New York. Marblette is similar to Bakelite and was made from 1931-1982. These racks are heavy and in overall nice condition. Original attaché case. Lined on the outside and inside with fake alligator skin. Includes a tile tray. Please see photos for condition. The latches work but the handle is in very fragile condition. This is a vintage mahjong set. It was not manufactured utilizing modern technology with precision controls and exact results. It has been used many, many times over the years and has many more years of life in it. But, it is old and it is not in excellent condition. Everything in the description above is based on my research and I believe is accurate to the best of my ability but I could be wrong. I am not an expert. I inherited two sets from my mother-in-law and am selling them.
