Description: This is basically a Handlan railroad lantern with a large fuel reservoir. It's great for burning a long time but too heavy for a conductor to be waving at the end of a train all day or night. This one has a red globe embossed "Handlan St Louis". The metal top of the lantern is stamped the same way. There are no other markings to determine what company, person or entity owned the lantern. Most likely it would be a warning light for a street closure or construction or bridge out for example. I believe it is from the 40's to 50's. It measures about 16" tall with the handle wxtended, about 10" tall lantern onky and 6" in diameter at the bottom. The tank could hold close to a quart of fluid. It seems to be serviceable as the wick moves up and down with a wheel. The tank is empty and retains the distonct odor of kerosene.
