An artist would use two pieces of silver, the bottom piece would be a solid piece and the top would have the symbols cutout and laid over the bottom. The majority of these creations would be all silver works without stones. Based on what I have researched online, I believe the maker of this Concho belt be Cecil Ashley, although I cannot verify that. This belt was made sometime in the mid 1980s and purchased by my grandmother. This is a gallery quality Hopi Concho belt. There are a total of nine Conchos and one belt buckle. The leather belt that it is on is approximately 40 inches long from the top of the belt buckle to the bottom of the leather, and all of the Conchos and belt buckle can come off. The back of each Concho holds the belt by a hand made copper bar. This is the original leather belt, so it could be replaced. See photos of the measurements and weights. This is a substantial Concho belt. It’s not small little rounds. The exact size and weight of each may vary as this was all custom. Based on the weight of the buckle and the 1 Concho weighed, the total should be approximately 9.665 ounces. This Concho belt was part of my grandmother‘s private collection. She paid over $2,500 for it back in the 80’s. The belt is handmade and reflects the traditional Hopi way of life. It is a perfect addition to any collection of Native American jewelry, and its unique design is sure to catch the eye of any collector. This belt is a must-have for anyone who appreciates the beauty and richness of Native American culture.
