Description: ITEM DESCRIPTION: This is a vintage Japanese woodcarving Noh mask of OKAME or KOOMOTE, which was made about 40-50 years ago. This mask is made of natural wood. Noh-mask is used for chief characters and supporting actors in Noh. When Noh-men are classified roughly, they are classified in old man, fearful god, woman, man, vindictive spirit. A kind of Noh-mask is called about 250. The basic form is about 60 kinds. Masks made in the Azuchimomoyama era from the Muromachi era are calld hon-men(original mask), the basic form is copied and reproduced afterwards. However, by a craftsman, there are masks of considerably different expression in spite of the same name. CONDITION: VERY GOOD. As shown in the pictures, it's very good condition. No chips, no cracks.
