Description: This Landers, Frary & Clark E998 "Universal" hotplate is in amazing working condition for its age. The patent date is August, 1913.It was made in New Britain, Connecticut. Other than some darkening of the finish and some marks on the heating surface, there's no damage. It's a very sturdy piece, weighing almost 4 1/2 pounds. The legs and handles are firmly attached.The rubber feet on the legs are aged and would need replacing at some point, but they're fine for now.The 6' cord is a period-correct replacement, professionally fitted to the original connector, which is in excellent condition.Two heating levels are available. The connector is marked "High" on one side and "Low" on the other - you just plug it in with either side up to get the desired heat. (I tried it - works as it should.)This is a wonderful time capsule, and suitable for everyday use!
