Description: Large CWC White Ceramic Serving Platter With Cover Made in ItalyVintage, UsedMade in Italy and imported by CWC. Pure white, elegant, serving platter and matching cover embossed with an acanthus raised leaf pattern around both pieces as shown in the photos. Acanthus as a decorative motif has been used as early as 500 BC in Grecian architecture and decorative arts. It is a stylized ornamental motif based on a characteristic Mediterranean plant with jagged leaves. It was first used by the Greeks on temple roof ornaments, on wall friezes, and on the capital of the Corinthian column.It is believed that this serving platter and cover was originally designed to serve fish but it can be used for any meal or purpose. It is very large and just stunning!The serving platter measures approximately 22¾” Long, is 12¾” Wide and stands 2½” High. The interior of the platter is approximately 2” Deep. The cover is approximately 18” Long, is 10¼” Wide and is approximately 4¼” High to the tip of the handle. The overall height of the platter with the cover in place is approximately 7” High.NOTE: There is a very small chip on the outside edge of the platter as shown in the photos. There are also some “bubble type” manufacturing imperfections on the underside of the rim also as shown in the photos. These of course are not visible unless the platter is turned over and you would run your fingers around the edge to find their location. These manufacturing imperfections do not impact the visual appearance of the platter in any way. The bottom edge of the platter has some scuffing on the underside due to wear as shown in the photos.This set might be considered a rare find due to its large size and with a matching cover and will be a great decorative addition to any dinner or holiday centerpiece or room within the home or possibly even a wonderful and unique wedding gift.Please view all photos in detail in order to assess this item's condition for yourself.
