Description: Genuine made in the usa unused condition Henry Disston & sons co. d-23 hand saw rare model / variant made 1953 - 1955 ONE OF THE LAST SAWS MADE BY DISSTON & SONS CO. WHEN IT WAS STILL FAMILY OWNED THE DISSTON NO. 7 HANDSAW WAS THE FIRST MODEL HENRY DISSTON SOLD, STARTING IN 1840. THERE WERE NOT MANY SAWMAKERS IN THE UNITED STATES MOST SAWS SOLD IN THE US DOMESTIC MARKET WERE IMPORTED FROM ENGLAND. EARLY AMERICAN SAWMAKERS IN LARGE, EITHER CAME FROM ENGLAND OR WERE APPRENTICED AND TAUGHT BY ENGLISH SAW MAKERS. AS SUCH, HENRY DISSTON STARTER HIS CAREER WORKING FOR THE ENGLISH FIRM OF LINDLEY, JOHNSON, AND WHITCRAFT. AFTER SEVEN YEARS OF LEARNING THE ROPES, OR SAWS IN THIS CASE, LJ&W WENT OUT OF BUSINESS. HENRY DISSTON VENTURED OUT ON HIS OWN AND STARTED THE HENRY DISSTON CO. WITH HIS FORMER EMPLOYERS MACHINES AND GREW HIS COMPANY IN TO ONE OF THE LARGEST TOOL MANUFACTURERS IN PHILADELPHIA, IF NOT THE UNITED STATES. ITEM: VINTAGE AMERICAN MADE HAND SAW CONDITION: VERY GOOD CONDITION – SAW IS AN ESTATE FIND. IT APPEARS THAT THE SAW WAS PURCHASED NEW, USED A TIME OR TWO, THEN HUNG IN THE GARAGE TO BE FORGOTTEN. THE TEETH, & HANDLE ARE VERY GOOD WITH NO ISSUES THAT WE COULD FIND. THE BLADE HAS SOME MINOR SURFACE CORROSION, EVIDENT IN THE PHOTOS WITH VERY LITTLE IF ANY PITTING - PHOTOS of ACTUAL YEAR of MANUFACTURE: UNKNOWN EXACT SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 1953 AND 1955 BEFORE DISSTON SOLD THE COMPANY.
