Description: Lovely quality example of the art of handmade petit point embroidery. This is from the famous Maria Stransky firm of Vienna, Austria which was founded in 1932 and still exists today. I cannot pin point a date to this piece but believe it to be 1930's as late as 1950. the Maria Stransky workshop is highly regarded for the quality of workmanship. The compact has a push button clasp, inside a bevelled mirror, a small velvet pad that fits over a screen, and below this is where the face powder would be. This piece appears to never actually to be used for powder. The piece measures 3.2" across. It is in very good vintage condition. The clasp to open works very nicely, and it closes with a nice "click". The fabric on the underside and sides of the bottom of the compact does show signs of age. The mirror is hazy with age. I took many photos to illustrate the mirror and the fabric on the bottom side, please check the photos carefully.
