Vintage Microform Bible by National Cash Register. "NCR Lunar Bible"

Description: This vintage microform Bible is only approximately one inch square, but contains the complete King James Bible and it can be read using a magnifier. The name Lunar Bible comes from the fact that about 500 of these went to the moon with Apollo 14. It was made to demonstrate NCR's microprinting technology that was first displayed at the 1964-65 Worlds fair in NYC. The story of how they got to the moon is both tragic and inspirational. It started with Apollo 1's Ed White and his desire to take a Bible with him to the moon. Unfortunately Ed White died in the Apollo 1 fire and never made it to the moon, but thanks to his NASA chaplain and his fellow astronauts, the Bible did. Strangely NCR's worlds fair display was located in the Court of the Moon directly across from the Lunar Fountain. This was years before anyone knew the NCR Bible would end up traveling to the moon.
