Description: Wonderful Parker Brothers wooden chess set imported from France in the late 1940's or early 1950's. The original cardboard carton and inner sliding lid fir box are in great condition, surprising given the 70-80 year age of this set. The boxwood and ebonized boxwood pieces were most likely made by Lardy for export to the United States. They are in excellent condition, with no major cracks or blemishes. The varnished boxwood pieces have developed a particularly nice patina with age that modern wood sets often try to imitate. The pieces are nicely felted and weighted, the white king is 1.06 oz (30.3 g), and measures 3.32" (84.3 mm) tall and 1.34" (34.1 mm) wide. This is a quality vintage library size set that would pair nicely with a board composed of 1.25"( mm)to 1.75"( mm)squares. The antique parquetry board in the photos is not included and is for demonstration purposes only. Thanks for checking out my listing.
