Description: Vintage Portieux Vallerysthal Dauphins Opaline Covered Dish This is such a lovely design with a shell handle on the lid which is draped with a garland of shells around the top. The bowl of the dish have dolphin feet and a beaded edge along the rim. The glass is white Opaline which seems to become clear on the finer details where the glass is thinner. It is unmarked and the glass is not pure white as typical of Westmoreland which would normally be marked on the lid. The lid measures 4-7/8" in diameter and about 3-3/4" highThe base measures 5-1/2" in diameter at the rim and 3-1/4" high If you hold the bowl up to the light you can almost see through the thinner details of the dolphin/serpent feet. It throws a beautiful radiant color as you move it in the light. I see faint hairline cracks at the edge of the lid and there is a chip off one of the shells in the shell garland decorating the lid. PV is made in France. Date is unknown but I suspect earlier than 1964. Item is sold as is. See photos to determine condition
