Description: It is hard to escape the legacy of the Punch Magazine. From 1841 to 2002, the magazine cast a satirical eye on life in Britain. It charted the interests, concerns and frustrations of the country and today it stands as an invaluable resource not just as cartoon art and satire, but for social historians.AVE! VICTORIA. REGINA ET IMPERATRIX! ["Hail Victoria! Empress and Queen!"]Original double page illustration by John Tenniel. Source: PUNCH magazine, May 24, 1899; original, pulled from the magazine, not a modern reproduction. Size: double-page, 10 3/4 x 16 1/4 inches, including borders, printed on single page with fold as issued, but was not sewn or stapled into the magazine, so there are no tiny holes in the centerfold; the verso is blank. Excellent condition, still bright paper, clean, light wear to the fold; placed in a book-press and crease flattened, stored this way and ships in a paper lined sleeved, rolled in a shipping tube. Apparently this illustration is related to Britain's involvement in Africa for which metals were produced "The East and Central Africa Medal, established in February 1899, was a British campaign medal awarded for minor military operations in the Uganda Protectorate and Southern Sudan between 1897 and 1899.-In the illustration are shown medieval Britain's on one side and mostly Indians on the other.
