Description: Fun Ladies' Boater from the 1960s or early 70s Midcentury. Also known as a "Skimmer", this hat has a flat top (more or less) and a flat brim. In the 1960s it could have been worn flat on the top of the head or at the back of the head for a more youthful or casual look. The 21" inner crown measurement is small, so the hat would have sat on the top of the head, attached with hatpins to hairdo or something. This Boater is woven of Raffia Straw in a Cream/Ivory White, and has a band of a close color with a bow, from a very beautiful, high quality soft velvet. Its impressive satin "Mr. Michael Exclusive" label tells us it most likely came from one of the fabulous huge department stores at the time, known for especially nice and often expensive clothing, accessories, etc. It has a look that was probably Mod adjacent or influenced. Besides use on heads, this hat would sit beautifully on display on a wall. Please see photos, read everything, and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks so much!
