Description: Raggedy Andy Ball made in the USA. Manufactured by the Corning Glass Co. for the Bobbs-Merrill Co. Inc. in the 1970s, one of a series of nostalgic renderings of the beloved dolls, Raggedy Ann and Andy, the 1973 ball features Andy skiing with his friendly bear. This item is in like new condition having never been hung on a tree and still in its original packaging. It was stored in a climate controlled area. Raggedy Andy is the feisty little brother and closest companion of Raggedy Ann. He was created by Johnny Gruelle as "the Little Rag Brother of Raggedy Ann" and first appeared in the self-titled 'Raggedy Andy Stories' in 1920. Bobbs-Merrill was the publisher of the Raggedy Ann books. In the early 20th C. Corning adapted their lightbulb blowing machinery to make Christmas balls. Many were marketed under the label of Shiny Brite. In the 1970s the company sold ornaments under their own name. See my shop for other vintage ornaments.
