Description: Vintage Richard Ginori trinket dish depicting the Carpano Palace and its famous entrance hall in the city of Turin, Italy. The transfer design in reddish-brown features the famous twisted columns of that palace. According to my online research, the palace was built in 1684, designed by Michelangelo Garove, and decorated in a sumptuous 17th century manner. The Italian words describing the Carpano picture are translated something like: "The Palace Carpano and the entrance hall / the vermouth of Turin since 1786." The reference to the alcoholic beverage vermouth is because, again according to the infallible internet, Antonio Benedetto Carpano is the inventor of commercially produced vermouth in 1786. The square dish is heavy ceramic with a small square foot underneath and the Richard Ginori logo stamp of a dragon and crown. Also printed is "Porcellana Ariston/ Made in Italy/ 60-14." Sweet piece of Italiana. Condition is very good, with slight wear on gilding on the rim, otherwise no apparent damage -- see pictures. Dimensions: 5" square x .75" tall. 7.0 oz
