Description: This platter reminds me of one of the current competitions or, perhaps, the sword-making show, where the contestant tries to demonstrate everything they've got in their final piece. This platter has it all. A very gentle arc-ing of the glass from the middle out. Two very grippable -- and yet stylish -- handles that extend beyond the 11" diameter of the platter. A dentile 1/2 inch "collar" under the platter and then a 1-1/2" free-form collage of etched grapes, flowers, stars separated by cross-hatched triangles at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and midnight on the "clock". Not least, a substantial beaded 5" "foot" on the bottom that keeps the bottom of the platter 3/4" from the table. My late sister Betsy, whose this was, would know who made this remarkable dish, but I don't because no one -- amazingly -- signed credit for it anywhere that I could see. Growing up in Pittsburgh, PA, where my sister stayed and did all her collecting, I would say it could be L.E. Smith, McKee, or Anchor Hocking, to start with, but I just don't know. I would say the design dates it from 1930 to early 1960s -- probably somewhere in the middle -- but I simply couldn't find another platter like it to confirm. The playful etchings stump me. (If you know, feel free to pass on the info and I'll add it.) Know that the high postage will be because 1) the package will be over 14" (because of the handles) in two directions, and the Post Office hates anything over 12"; and 2) if you live anywhere west of the Mississippi, postage shoots up. On the other hand, I pack these like new-born babies (if one had a reason to ship new-born babies). Thanks for reading.Rick
