The Baluchari Sari Got Its Name From The Extinct Village Of Baluchar In Murshidabad, West Bengal. The Butidar Baluchari Sari Was Once A Prized Possession Of The Upper Class Bengal Because Of Its Ornamental Ground, Elaborate Borders, Fine Corner Figures And Unusual Anchal. The Weaving Of Baluchari Was An Elaborate And Complicated Process, Often Requiring A Number Of Helpers To The Main Loom. Up To 12 – 14 Naqshas Could Be Employed.
