Description: This listing is for a rad group of vintage 'Blade' chairs designed by Maurizio Peregalli for the Italian firm Zeus Noto and introduced in 1984. Pricing here is per chair, but a full set of 8 are currently available. Please message me if you would like to buy more than one. Local pickup in NYC only. I found these chairs in a vintage shop in the Netherlands and was drawn to the minimalism of Peregalli's design, as well as his unusual use of brushed steel for the seat and back. I like how his design celebrates the materiality of the steel and uses an industrial finish for decorative effect. The seat and back are made from a single sheet of flat steel that has been bent where the two planes meet. The seat itself is suspended between square tubular steel legs and is secured at the back with two copper rivets that attach to a crossmember in the frame. Because of the angle of the seat pan, the front of the seat is suspended approximately 1/4" above a crossmember connecting the front legs. When you sit, the steel flexes down to rest on a rubberized strip that runs across the front stretcher. There is an arc detail at the base of the back where seat and frame meet, and there Peregalli uses five copper rivets to join the two together. This subtle patterning accentuates an otherwise spare design, and the domed copper rivets contrast well with the cool steel. Peregalli's master stroke here is the slit that runs about two-thirds of the way down the back, ending in a circular cut and dividing the upper back into two fins. This really catches the eye and uses negative space in an interesting way. The black painted legs are powder coated tubular steel and are capped with plastic plugs. Because of the rivets, they cannot be taken apart for shipping. One of these has a design variation with black rivets instead of copper. The chairs are approximately 17 1/2"w x 35 1/2"h x 22"d. They are in good overall used condition, with marks and wear consistent with age. Each chair shows some degree of bending where the thin metal back meets the riveted arc detail, some less than others. You are welcome to choose the chair(s) you like best at pickup. I would recommend for occasional use, or as design objects only, as the backs flex easily so you can't lean into them. See photos to verify condition and feel free to ask questions.
