Description: This is one of Stella Chavarria's nicest Water Serpent bowls or pieces I've seen ,Large hand made & carved bowl with a traditional water serpent circling the bowl .. It measures 6" in Diameter X 4" inches high . substantial beautiful flowing large piece of Museum quality pottery . Stella Chavarria is listed in the booklet " 7 families of Pueblo pottery Maxwell Museum UNM Press published in 1974 . She is the daughter of Christina Naranjo whose mother was Sarafina "Geronimo" Tafoya The matriarch of Santa Clara Pueblo pottery. I estimate imho the piece was crafted in 1970's or the early 80's making this 40 plus yrs ago imho.. The bottom is signed by Stella has a old penned price of $160.00 . I do know that 30 yrs ago a nice baseball sized carved blackware bowls , I saw visiting Potter's home's at Santa Clara Pueblo , in home of Santa Clara Potter's ,then asking price approximately $190.00 -$250.00 This bowl is double the size of those I saw at Santa Clara 30 years ago with my own eyes . Please feel free to ask any questions Thank You John
