Description: This week I am listing a bunch of books, many of which are rare (in fact, MOST of them are not available on Amazon, and several of them aren’t available ANYWHERE.) Despite the rarity of some of these, I keep my prices reasonable. If one of my offerings has caught your eye, please check out my other listings. (There are more items than just books!) Books, magazines, CDs, and DVDs ship via USPS Media Mail. I will combine shipping for multiple orders to save you even more USMCR HONORABLE DISCHARGE LAPEL BUTTON - Excellent estate sale find – brass button-back lapel/ hat “eagle, globe and anchor (EGA)” USMC/ Marines/ Marine Corps Reserve stud, circa 1944 issue. Later Marine Corps Reserve lapel pins were circular with the “US Marine Corps Reserve”written around the outer circumference. One quick way to place a pin such as this as mid-fifties or earlier is the “button-back” style of construction. After that period of time, the lapel of most suits did not have a complete hole through the lapel in which to place a boutonniere. The modern “hole” is now usually false, made with a strip of thread sewn into the material to give a“slit” impression. Lapel buttons such as this one were made for the earlier style of civilian clothing manufacture, when the hole went entirely through. The button is slightly smaller than a penny. Per USMC standards, the regular USMCR button signifies membership in the USMC Reserve whereas the USMCR honorable discharge button designates honorable discharge from the USMCR. Either button is to be worn only with civilian clothes. These buttons may be worn by officers on inactive duty retaining their commissions and enlisted men who have reenlisted in the reserve. The button was designed at the beginning of World War 2 for men joining the reserves, but remaining on inactive duty.
