Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York ........ This is a rare February 23rd, 1950 "Playgoer" playbill from the three-night, Pre-Broadway engagement of the musical comedy "WHAT A DAY!" (later retitled "GREAT TO BE ALIVE!") at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut. (The production would open March 23rd, 1950 at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City and close after only 52 performances.) ..... Originally titled "WHAT A DAY!" during its out-of-town tryouts, the ensemble cast included VIVIENNE SEGAL, STUART ERWIN, VALARIE BETTIS, MARK DAWSON, MARTHA WRIGHT, BAMBI LINN, LEONARD ELLIOTT (replaced out-of-town by EARL OXFORD), J. C. McCORD, ROD ALEXANDER, RUSSELL NYPE, LULU BATES, DAVID NILLO, DON KENNEDY, PAUL REED, SWEN SWENSON (in what would be his Broadway debut) and JANICE RULE ..... CONDITION: With the exception of moerate creasing and minor edge wear, this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
