Description: Mid-to-late century New York State artist and art educator RF Harnett was known for the distinctive modernist spin he put on his often homespun subject matter. His drawings, paintings and prints, sometimes done on wood grounds, reflected the shift from rural to suburban and urban living seen in America during the 50s-70s, and his art, which was highly popular during that time , is deeply nostalgic for many. Deceptively naïf , the work is actually quite sophisticated. The strong, sinuous railway leading through the composition is a dynamic visual element, leading the eye unerringly through the narrow vertical field. The sprightly, moderne style of the illustrations contrasts beautifully with the rich wood grain finish. Although the paper backing has been removed from the reverse, the solidly framed, lightweight wood panel is in EUC with no chips, cracks, warping, fading or stains. It does need hanging apparatus but will be an easy hang, due to its light weight. Fun, nostalgic mid-century art piece ships USPS Ground Advabtage from Los Angeles.
