Description: The renowned 1988 RUSSIAN LEGENDS decorative plates were the first collector's plate series ever produced in Russia. The limited-edition plates show famous Russian legends and fairytales. They're exclusive designs are modeled after classic Russian lacquer boxes from the village of Palekh. This is a set of 2 plates from the original series of 12. The first plate is Ruslan and Ludmilla. The second plate is Princess and Seven Bogatyrs. These gorgeous collector plates are in excellent pre owned condition. Please see all photos as they are part of the description. The plates were created with 16-17 layers of ceramic pigments and 18kt gold on hard-fired porcelain. The firing period was strictly limited to 195 days at the historic Vinogradoff Porcelain factory. Distributed for Tianex by the Bradford Exchange, each plate was assigned an individual Bradex number. They were only made and sold on the Bradford Exchange in 1988-1990. The plates are 7 1/2" (19cm) in diameter. The reverse side, n Russian, describes the title, story and serial number. The plates are signed on the front (bottom right). The artists of Palekh are renowned for their colorful art, fine line drawing and beautiful gold work. This series became highly popular after the breakup of the Soviet Union. All plates are hand-painted with 18kt gold on porcelain, made with Gzhel clays and rare Olonetz quartz and Alabaster. The gold and original colors are bright and rich. No chips, crack, or repairs. All plates are signed and numbered.
