Description: Up for sale is this vintage Japanese woodblock art print by famous Japanese artist, Tokuriki Tomikichiro. This one is entitled Autumn Rain at Sanpo-in and looks to be titled / signed in the upper corner. This print “Daigo Sanpo-in” shows the spacious Japanese garden at Daigo Sanpo-in monastery on a rainy autumn day. The trees are covered with colorful yellow and orange autumn foliage. At bottom center, stepping stones lead to an earthen bridge over the water, with a waterfall flowing into the river among the rocks at upper right. The rain falls straight down, the color of the drops changing from black to white depending on the background color. Daigo-ji Sanpo-in Temple was founded as a sub-temple in 1115, but received a total revamp in 1598 under the orders of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the feudal leader who unified Japan. It is a fine example of the amazing opulence of that period. The garden is filled with about 800 beautifully arranged stones. This print has excellent color and detail and is framed and protected behind glass. Frame measures 12.4” inches wide by 16.5” inches long (31.5 cm, 41.9 cm).
