Today I am offering this fabulous vintage and very hard-to-find bowl by designer Massimo Vignelli for Sasaki. Produced in 1995, this is the Birch color pattern from Sasaki's Colorstone line. This is a discontinued pattern. This minimalist bowl is a glossy peppered cream color. It looks matte at first glance, but it's actually a subtle grainy appearance glossy finish. It's considered a textured pattern, but it's smooth to the touch. The rim edge is unglazed. These clean lines give it a definite zen mid-century modern vibe. It measures approximately 7" across the top opening, and about 1" deep. It's the perfect size for cereal , soup, chili, a small side salad, or ice cream. The printed hallmark on the underside reads as follows: SASAKI Colorstone Birch Vignelli Designs Inc. Made in Japan The condition is vintage, pre-owned but excellent. It appears to be barely used. There are no chips, cracks, or crazing. I don't detect any unsightly utensil marks. Even the underside rim is super clean with no shelf wear. The unglazed rim has some spots, but I don't know if they are from manufacturing or use. Either way they don't detract from the look or functionality of the bowl. There may be extremely minimal superficial surface storage wear if you are scrutinizing it under a bright light. But I'm just nitpicking right now when in reality I can't find anything negative to say. These do not come along too often so don't sleep on this deal! As you can see by the screenshot picture I included, even Replacements-dot-com doesn't have this piece in stock. It will look great with any mid-century modern or minimalist theme decor.
