Description: This is a very unusual pottery form.... This piece appears to be the top of a heavily decorate pot, but with out the lower portion and is meant to be hung on the wall. It is covered with butterflies and floral motifs and painted with very subtle pigments with a metallic cast to them. This pot is all handmade, hand painted and Burnished in the pottery tradition called Barro bruñido by Daniel Aguilar Benitez. Daniel is a master potter who belongs to an august group of potters who call them selves Grupo Herencia Milenaria. They have a lovely museum on the outskirts of Tonala and are devoted to the conservation and promotion their ancestral tradition Tonaltecan Ceramic craft. It is signed on the front on the bottom right hand corner by Daniel.It measures approximately: 12 3/4 inches in diameter & 3 inches deep.There is a clay loop on the back so it can be hung on the wall...This plate is a wonderful example of Mexican Folk art and Ceramic traditions from this area of Mexico. This is a newly made piece and is in perfect condition. This would make a great addition to your Mexican Folk Art collection or a wonderful gift for a Lover of beautiful objects!!!
