Description: Handmade Genuine South Carolina Wampum (Quahog Shell) Earrings. The Clam shells originally came from South Carolina where my Parents clam. No two clam shell pieces are the same because of the bivalve mollusks that produce them as well as the labor intensive multi step process that follows. These authentic Clam shells have been hand sectioned, tumbled for two days in coarse grit and bleach sand, drilled, tumbled for two days in fine grit, tumbled for two days in 500 grit, tumbled for two days in Aluminum Oxide polish, and then tumbled for one day in water. These Clam shells are in high a state of luster because of the tumbling/polish steps and have not been coated with anything. Since Clam shell consists of Calcium Carbonate it is softer than glass and will break if dropped. Oils/acids May lessen the luster if left in contact with the shell so occasional washing in warm mild soapy water and rinsed then dried with a microfiber cloth is recommended. It is advisable not to store them where they will be exposed to UV for extended periods as this could cause the wonderful purple shades to lighten in color. Please enjoy these unique handmade wonders of nature. Thank you so much for supporting my small hobby created by me and my father.
