Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Member of the Union of Journalists of the USSR. Yuri Vladimirovich Kershin was born in Tiflis. Studied at the Tiflis Academy of Arts under M. I. Toidze, U. M. Japaridze, A. K. Kutateladze (1946–49). Until 1956 he lived in Baku, Murmansk, Sevastopol. Since 1956 - in Moscow, he began to draw cartoons for the newspapers "Pravda", "Soviet Russia", magazines "Agitator", "Soviet Union" and others. In the 1960s and 1980s, Kershin worked on social and political posters for the publishing houses "Fine Art", IZOGIZ, "Plakat", "Soviet Artist", designed and illustrated books. Particularly interesting are the artist's anti-imperialist and anti-American posters, sharp in shape and bright in color, always made with great imagination: "More than once beaten, again eager to fight, but there is a collar for a mad dog!" (1969), "Policy of the USAntazha ..." (1984), "Let's not allow the nuclear abyss!" (1984). He made a lot of posters using the technique of photomontage, some of them co-authored with Viktor Koretsky: "To be worthy" (1968), "Chains are breaking - this is an echo of our revolution" (1968), "According to Lenin's behest, the Fatherland lights the fire!" (1969), "Wealth of the subsoil - for the good of the people!" (1969), "USSR on guard of the world" (1973), "From this threshold - a wide road" (1985). He worked on aviation and space themes, author of posters such as "Glory to the first woman astronaut!" (1963), "Glory to Soviet Science!" (1964). Kershin's posters are represent in the Russian State Library, in the Rybinsk State Historical-Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve, in the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, in private Russian and foreign collections. www.facebook.com/sovietartposters Listing and template services provided by inkFrog
