Collected by Sylvia Pearl Dorsey (1874-1957), who lived mainly in Marshall County WV, in the Moundsville area; she was the first female instructor in West Virginia's farmers' institutes. This herbarium was probably assembled when she was a student at West Virginia Wesleyan college in Buckhannon, WV; most of the samples come from Buckhannon, with one or two from other areas, like Terra Alta. She has filled out all the details on the "Plant Description" forms and supplied examples for 34 different plants, including purple ragwort, shepherd's purse, yellow violet, small bitter cress, buttercup, wild columbine, wild flox, muck common orange, ladies slipper, poet's narcissus, wild spotted cranesbill, bleeding heart, spring beauty, flowering dogwood, white clover, red clover, dead nettle, ground ivy, trailing arbutus, purple printer-flower, blueto, cinnamon rose, Japan Quince, Dewberry, narrow leaf crabapple, wild black cherry, wild strawberry, five finger, adder's tongue, larger Solomon seal, nightshade, star of Bethlehem, Lily of the valley, pheasants eye, Sundrop, and about a dozen specimens that she has mounted which don't have any notes attached to them.
