Purviance was a Pennsylvania-born photographer who opened a daguerreotype studio in the 1850s, and in 1867 went to work for the Pennsylvania Central Railroad as their official photographer. After moving to Philadelphia he began producing photos and stereoviews of American Northeastern and Western scenery as W.T. Purviance Co. His genre & humorous views are much less common than his landscapes in the marketplace, and at least some were also issued by other studios in England. The scenes were also sometimes re-shot in succeeding decades by other publishers with the same captions and action, but with updated models and sets.Stereoview card. Some soil and wear.
