Description: The White Star Lines, despite the disastrous Maiden voyage of the Titanic, continued to build luxury liners. The HMS GEORGIC was the last ship ever built by White Star and would prove to be a luxurious way to travel between the US and UK. She proved herself to be quite the resilient and useful ship. Her maiden voyage was in June 1932. Found in the hand-me-downs, traces back to a family member who immigrated to the US, arriving on the GEORGIC. In 1939, the GEORGIC was requisitioned for use as a troop carrier and was converted in Clydebank to carry over 3,000 men. In May, 1940, as the situation worsened for the Allies, Georgic assisted in the evacuation of British troops from Andersfjord and Narvik, in Norway, landing them at the Clyde. This was followed by participation in the evacuation of troops from Brest and St.Nazaire.The Georgic was deployed on the Canadian service, transporting Canadian troops to the Middle East. This service continued successfully until 14 July 1941 when, near Port Tewfik, Georgic was bombed by the Luftwaffe. She was successfully refitted, and put back into service in 1949, requisitioned again for service in the Korean War in 1950. Her last voyage as a troop carrying ship was in 1955.
