The organic floral forms of stylized dianthus sprays and maple leaves flow over the pot in an elegant Art Nouveau design. The blues vary from deep blue to delicate pale blue. Before setting up his own company, William Moorcroft was employed by Macintyre & Co in 1897. He was chief designer of the art pottery studio and his first range called Florian Ware was a smashing success. Unusual at that time, he adopted the practice of signing his name, or his initials, on nearly all his pieces. Without a doubt ‘Florian Ware’ was his most spectacular collection and highly sought after. Interestingly it is said he was dismissed after the collection became so popular and overshadowed the firm.
