Description: A beautiful early original watercolor by Win Jones. It is inscribed with the artist’s name and address on the back. He was a renowned Art Professor at Northern Illinois University. I am not an expert in his work. The date on the front is 1966 (a former student of his from the 70s confirmed the date as I thought it could have been 65). So this is a very early painting of his. I know from research online he was painting his American Yard series at this time. The colors here are rust, sepia, gray, black, blue. A quiet winter scene where you can feel the wind and cold! From his obituary online: Winslow ("Win") Larrabee Jones Jr., 84, died in St. Augustine, Fla., on Jan. 21, 2017. He was born on June 27, 1932, in Schenectady, N.Y., the only child of Winslow Larrabee Jones Sr. and Barbara Gurney Jones. They lived in Portland, Maine, for nine years before moving to Park Ridge, Ill. Win attended Lawrence University in Appleton, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree there, and a Master of Arts degree later from Northern Illinois University. He served in the U.S. Army for two years from 1954 until 1956. Win began his career as the art teacher for Barrington High School in Illinois, where he also coached the cross country team. In 1969, he moved on to Northern Illinois University in DeKalb as professor of Art and Art History, teaching there 20 years before retiring in 1989. A well-known watercolorist, Wins paintings have been in exhibitions and art shows throughout the USA, and are included in numerous museum and private collections. He also instructed adult watercolor workshops, his favorite venue being The Clearing Folk School in Ellison Bay, where he led his popular workshops for 50 years. A book, "Win Jones Watercolors, A Retrospective", was recently published, showcasing his paintings from 1964 to the present day.
