Description: this is a lovely vintage (1992) impressionistic oil on wood panel painting entitled "Wolcott Park, Essex" - after having exchanged emails with the artist, I found out that the location of the painting's subject is a park located in Essex, CT, not far from the Connecticut River Museum - the painting is a wonderful depiction of a weather-beaten "T-shaped" wooden dock on a waterfront with numerous pleasure type sailboats anchored at their moorings - the artist has used a palette of bold green & red colors in the foreground of the painting to portray the foliage of the small pine tree, the triangle of lawn, & the red flowers which become the initial focus of the picture - in the mid-section of the picture, the artist used a palette of muted & subtle beige, off-white, & gray colors to depict the weather-beaten dock, its wooden vertical posts, & the vertical post of the sundial on the left, & the horizontal wooden fencing on the dock - further muted beige was used to show the large rock in the right foreground with the bronze plaque on it - next comes the secondary point of focus for the viewer : the many multi-colored sailboats at rest in calm water by their moorings - the artist used semi-bold blue, red, & off-white colors to show the sailboats with sails unfurled - just beyond the sailboats are numerous gray clouds interspersed with bits of off-white clouds suggesting an oncoming rain shower - the total balance of the painting is well-done & a pleasure to view where the talented artist has successfully created space & depth through her impressionistic view of this lovely summer day by the dock at "Wolcott Park" - the painting measures 10" x 8", & is in very good vintage condition - it is greatly enhanced by its original gilded wooden frame which measures 13" x 11", & is also in very good vintage condition - note that 2 recent auction results for artist Linda Wolcott were (1) a small O/B study in blue sky & water O/B for $350. plus 25% buyers premium = $437. (2) a small O/B painting of 2 sailboats sailing on the water for $375. plus 25% buyers premium = $469. -
