Description: Recession: Depression for Some, Opportunity for Others My name is Fred Trust and I am an owner of the Wizard of Oz Museum in Cape Canaveral, Florida. wizardofozflorida.com Before opening the museum, I was a collector and dealer of the Wizard of Oz book series and know quite a bit about Oz books. I am trying to raise money for the museum's new location in the Orlando area and selling some of the collectibles that I own for this purpose. Otherwise, I would not consider selling rare artifacts.People believe that during a recession, collectible are also losing their value. Although this might be true for low-grade collectibles, rare and unique collectibles are usually appreciated.I was reading statistics from Heritage Auction House after the 2008 stock market corrections, and they indicated thatThe number of successful bidders was up by 11% The average lot value was up by 8.49% The number of lots sold in each weekly auction is up 39.95% Total sales volume was up 43.34%Collecting is a passion and a distraction to a better place, a better quality of life than we can get from say, for example, following stock price every day. What fun is that? Plus, collectible values will NEVER go to zero as many stocks have.In 2009, I put together a Wizard of Oz price guide that listed the prices of Oz books at the time. Revisiting Prices in 2019, ten years later, reveals that Oz books prices for 1st edition 1st printing copies in very good to Fine condition on average tripled in price. Looks like these first edition Oz books in very good or better condition at least mimics US stock markets investment returns. This particular book is a pure example of this type of investment that falls into above-average return. It is a Rare book since it is a pre-publication copy. It is an "A" Binding, One of the dozen books that was printed and survived. It is complete with all the necessary points and illustrations. THIS IS A FIRST KNOWN COPY in EXISTANCE, PRE-PUBLICATION dating May 23, 1900.Geo Hill Publisher. Wonderful Wizard of OZ. "A" - Binding. 1st edition, 1st state. 1st edition / 1st state. 24 color plates. All Points for the 1st state from Oziana. Binding A. Rare, probably around 20 copies or less survived due to pre-publication. This copy was inscribed in May of 1900. This is the first known dated issue of this printing. The next known issue was on June 20, 1900, from Frank Bum to his brother. Taking into consideration that this book is in excellent condition and is the first known copy that survived makes this copy very desirable.Book evaluation on a scale of 1 to 10 ( 10 being the best)1.Front cover - 92.Back Cover- 103.Spine- 94.Text Block- 105.Body Strength- 96.
