This kit is for inswing doors that are mounted on a jamb of 6 9/16" overall width that has rot extending 5" or less above the sill. Kit consists of two 9 1/2" aluminum jamb covers, one 5.5 oz. tube of acrylic latex caulking, two warning signs, one cleanup rag and complete installation instructions. The width of each RD6 jamb cover is approximately 4.4 inches. For a more narrow jamb stop width (approx. 2.4 inches, order Rot Doc RD4) The repair kit can be installed in minutes and gives the rotten jamb a completely new look, avoiding hundreds of dollars spent replacing door jambs. Kits are available for other inswing door configurations, so check your particular configuration from the chart below. Installation Instructions Rot Docs are designed to cover rot at the bottom of a standard in-swinging door jamb. Rot generally occurs because of water penetration at the door sill. This water wicks up in the wood and holds water which results in rot near the bottom. Rot Docs helps seal out this water and covers the ugly rot, thereby extending the life of the door jamb and saving hundreds of dollars to replace the door and/or jamb. If present, allow to dry for several days before proceeding or dry with a heat gun, hair dryer or fan. If rot extends beyond 5 inches above the door sill, this kit may not work well and you may need to replace the door jamb. 2. Dry fit both the left and right Rot Docs to ensure they fit snugly over the rotten jamb area. Note the bottom is cut at a slight angle to match the angle of the door sill. If your door has brick molding it may be necessary to slightly pry the molding slightly loose to allow the Rot Docs to slip behind it. Additionally, a portion or all of the brick molding may require replacing. 3. Remove the Rot Doctors and apply a caulk bead the entire length of the inside corners, along the top, down the center, and on the feet. Press the Rot Docs in place and remove excess caulking with a damp cloth provided. Repeat for the opposite door Jamb. Check to ensure that all edges of your Rot Docs are sealed to prevent any moisture or rainwater from getting behind them. 4. Using two scrap blocks of wood approximately 9” long, place them over Rot Docs on both sides and wedge them tight to the jamb with a stick of proper length. An expandable shower curtain rod works well for the purpose. A couple of quart paint cans sitting on the sill helps hold the stick or curtain rod in place while positioning. 5. Tape the warning signs on the inside and outside of the door near the handle to warn others of the trip hazard. 6. Allow the caulking to dry for 24 hours before removing the tension stick or expandable shower curtain rod. 7. Paint to match the door jamb. Thank you for purchasing Rot Docs.
