Description: Onehunga, New Zealand's version of an early Pendleton camp blanket. Woolen animal flocks of the highest quality flourished in New Zealand due to favorable conditions. At the time, wools and pelts were the most sought after apparel, with the fur trades accounting for a large portion of international trade. The Woolen Mills are credited with the first factory legislation in New Zealand. A nice plaid pattern, 62" x 50". This is an early example of New Zealand's most important wool mill. It was an essential item in it's day and though still fashionable for use in many occasions, holds the most important value for the story behind it.
