Description: Worcester, MASSACHUSETTS - Lincoln Square - 1917: Worcester's Lincoln Square was a roundabout. A new traffic pattern with traffic lights replaced the previous free-for-all. Turning this intersection from a rotary to a traditional street crossing also meant relocating monuments that once stood in the center of the rotary, but relocation is no stranger to the buildings around this area: the Salisbury Mansion once stood nearby, before it was moved to its present location up the hill a block. The Salisbury family’s businesses were centered at this square earlier in the 18th and 19th century, but the intersection ended up being named for another prominent Worcester family, the Lincolns, for whom Lincoln Street was also named. The Lincoln family produced many prominent legislators, as well as at least one judge and a journalist. This Divided Back Era postcard, mailed in 1917, is in good condition, but shows some edge wear.
