Description: SHOCK TALES (Rare One-shot) Publisher Myron Fass sat at the top of a pulp magazine publishing empire in the seventies that sometimes published as many as fifty titles a month! Fass favoured one shots, like this title, his first try at a horror themed magazine (published in 1959, prior to the prolific publishing run of the ‘70s). It suffered from inferior production values (black & white pages on cheap newsprint) making it difficult to find in nice condition, a little crude, a little gaudy, and a lot of fun! Despite the almost total lack of horror film related content, this horror fiction magazine is eagerly sought after by most serious monster magazine collectors. A few film stills were used as illustration for it's stories, but most of the photos (cover and interiors) were staged scenes of horror, possibly using members of the magazine's staff. Contents: Blood Is Thicker Than…, The Most Perfect Monster!, How To Be Horrible, I Ain’t Got No Body!, I Dream I Dream, The Girl In The Gilded Coffin, Bored To Death, The Harlot Wouldn’t Die, The Werewolf Rapist, A Funeral For A Vampire, And Baby Makes 3, Eye Photographs Death.Condition: Complete but well worn/read/heavily creased/fragile spine. Bottom of spine rounding/wear/paper-loss, heavy wear & cross stress creasing along spine, spine is split from top to bottom although back cover is attached via paper tab at bottom staple only (for this fragile condition the covers should be considered detached), wear/creasing to all edges of front cover, multiple creases at top right corner of front cover (largest apprx. 4” diagonal), horizontal tears along reading edge of front cover, creasing at bottom right corner of front cover, area of scuffing/paper-lift on front cover Title area, creasing/wear over surface of front cover, moisture dry-out waviness over surface of front cover, wear/creasing/tears to all edges of back cover, chunk of paper-loss about ¼ of the way down from top of spine on back cover, creasing/wear/staining over surface of back cover, moisture dry-out waviness over surface of back cover. Please use zoom and enlargement features to show all of these defects (and others I have not described). Internally complete with all pages (browning with some dog-eared corners, moisture dry-out staining, crinkly feel) and nothing clipped out or missing. The magazine being offered here is complete, but in well worn/read/heavily creased/fragile spine shape, but because of it’s historical significance, I cannot and will not toss it into the dumpster! Here is a golden opportunity to obtain this magazine at a fraction of the price one in better shape would undoubtedly command (if you could find one at all, as this was long before the “preserve and collect” comic & monster magazine boom started in the early 1960s).All magazines are packaged with Collectors in mind. They will be individually bagged, and sandwiched between two pieces of over-sized cardboard. This not only helps to prevent magazine edge damage during the shipping phase, but it also helps to prevent folding and rough handling of the magazine(s). This secured package is then put into a cushioned bubble mailer, helping to ensure you will receive your item in the same condition that it leaves my crypt in! Please read descriptions carefully as I cannot offer insurance or refunds, and am not responsible for items once accepted at the Post Office. A quote for postage cost for combined shipping for multiple purchases is always available. Thanks very much for your interest in my items!
