This book is a story told by one U.S. Marine (Robert Holland), who like many other millions of Americans, accepted the challenge that had been thrust on them, putting his life and future on hold until the job that had to be done was finished. Bob Holland tells the story of his part in the release of 3,700 American civilian prisoners of the Japanese at Santo Tomas University Internment Camp in Manila. A flying column from the 1st. Cavalry Division liberated a population of 3,700 plus of internees being held at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila on the evening of 3 February 1943. The battle for Manila followed and continued until 3 March, when the 1st, Cavalry, 11th. Airborne, and 37th. Infantry Divisions cleared the city.
