Description: Complete and intact. Original. PLEASE NOTE the rest of the badges shown on the card are obviously NOT included with this badge and are being sold separately. That photo is just to illustrate the provenance of this particular badge. PROVENANCE. This badge was bought from the collection of the late historian Andre Colliot of Arras, France. Andre was a French historian, vice president of the Western Front Association and renowned militaria collector with a keen interest in the British Army in WW1 and WW2. He did a lot of work to help commemorate the British Army's involvement in the wars including to erect numerous monuments and plaques to British soldiers and units on the battlefields of Northern France, where he lived. During the 1950s and 1960s he began amassing a huge collection of militaria relating to the British Army in both world wars, but particularly WW1. He picked these items up locally from various sources at a time when a lot of material was still left over in Northern France. In the 2000s he sold his huge collection of large military items and equipment to Avril Williams of the Ocean Villas guest house on the Somme who now houses it in a purpose built museum, but kept back his amazing badge collection. In 2016 he needed some money to help out a friend and contacted us to sell us some of the highlights from his badge collection. We are now offering these for sale here. The majority of the Canadian badges in his collection, he kindly gave away to a friend of his and the rest of his badge collection was eventually sold off to the Somme Museum in Albert and are on display in the tunnels (still on their display cards) if anyone has visited that museum recently. These are therefore the only badges for sale from his amazing collection to the public. He picked up most of these badges in 1950s and 1960s from markets, farmers, locals and other sources in France so the provenance is impeccable. I have included a photo of Andre in his amazing office as well as a photo of the display it came from as provenance. We met him a few times in his later years and he was always very kind and very friendly. He would love to know that these badges will be enjoyed by fellow collectors in their own collection and appreciated and looked after for the next generation to learn from.
