Description: Great War Trio British War Medal 1914-15 Star Victory Medal Awarded to Gunner Lance Bombardier. Harry Sant 1482 / S14292 Royal Field Artillery Regiment Landed at Le Harve 18th April 1915 All original WW1 medals with ribbons mounted on clasp Named and numbered correctly This trio of First World War medals, the 1914-15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal, were collectively irreverently referred to as Pip, Squeak and Wilfred, after three comic strip characters, a dog, a penguin and a rabbit, which were popular in the immediate post-war era. Pip represented either of the two Stars, Squeak represented the British War Medal and Wilfred represented the Victory Medal. The Royal Field Artillery (RFA) of the British Army provided close artillery support for the infantry. It came into being when created as a distinct arm of the Royal Regiment of Artillery on 1 July 1899, serving alongside the other two arms of the regiment, the Royal Horse Artillery (RHA) and the Royal Garrison Artillery (RGA). It ceased to exist when it was amalgamated with the Royal Garrison Artillery in 1924.[2] The Royal Field Artillery was the largest arm of the artillery. It was responsible for the medium calibre guns and howitzers deployed close to the front line and was reasonably mobile. It was organised into brigades, attached to divisions or higher formations. It participated in the Mesopotamian campaign during World War 1. Medals Ref.2369
