Description: This pair of WW2 1940 Lend-Lease British US Bausch & Lomb 6x30 Binoculars is in good condition overall but shows expected signs of age, service and storage. The binoculars are well marked, "BAUSCH & LOMB OPT. CO. ROCHESTER N.Y. U.S.A." on one side and "LIKE 343 6X30" on the opposite. The Bausch & Lomb factory markings and the size of the optics would strongly suggest that this "unmarked" example is actually a model US Navy Mark III Mod. I, however it lacks this final model designation stamp commonly seen just above the factory stamp. The "6X30" stamp is correct, though the "LIKE 343" stamp is not found on US Navy marked examples. This stamp could possibly be an indicator of service in British hands. Of interest, it does appear as if someone may have purposely tried to deface or remove the "N. Y. U.S.A." portion of the factory stamp as well as the "BAUSCH" portion. The surrounding area is free from any other damage that can be detected, it strongly appears to be a purposeful and isolated action. It is worth speculating that the name of the company could have been "too close" to the unfriendly term the Germans were referred to as and it might have been removed for good measure! Two strong yellow British "Broad Arrows" also adorn this pair of binoculars and this style marking method appears to be very common during the Lend-Lease period just before America entered World War 2. Both eye pieces are clean and turn freely to independently adjust each lens. The optic glass appears clean and free from chips are scratches on all exterior surfaces however they show expected age when peering through them. The image viewed is stable and correct, they appear to still be relatively collimated. One of the larger optic rings is missing but the threads appear to be clean and a replacement could be found and added easily. The textured finish wrap is also clean and shows no signs of peeling or other damage. This pair of binoculars would be a welcome addition to any advanced British or US WW2 collection. Please examine the photographs carefully for the best description of condition.
