Description: Original WW2 CAPTURED German map of the POLISH BORDER REGION with an UNUSUAL OVERPRINTED LAYER. This layer has been added in purple with a hatched area covering the Polish territory and a smaller area within it 'shaded' with dots. It's a bit of a mystery as there is no corresponding 'overlay key' in the margin, but it may relate to ground conditions or land use as the dotted area is laid out in a series of what appear to be a cluster of long fields. The place names within the shaded parts of the map have also been given their alternative names in German overprinted in orange. Whilst the remaining area, which makes up the majority of the map, was officially German before the War, the entire map now forms part of modern day Poland. From a large collection recently sold off by Edinburgh University - hence their own ink stamping to margin. (From time to time, the government distributes excess stocks of its surplus maps to various national institutions.)
