Description: Scarce and desirable early-production "red spacer" Mark 2 USN-designated fighting knife manufactured by Robeson Cutlery. This MK2 is about 11-1/2" / 29.3 cm overall; the blade is about 6-1/2" / 16.5 cm. The blade has been re-sharpened; it is very sharp still; no dings on the spine; the tip has been rounded. Ricasso is marked U.S.N. on one side, ROBESON SHUREDGE on the other. Stacked leather washers handle with a red fiber spacer on top; the guard is tight with no play. Early "screw-on" thick hammer-like steel pommel and slightly curved handguard; handle parts are tight with no play. Original USN-marked leather scabbard is in poor condition; the hanger is MIA; the leather is dry; this scabbard is for display only. Front panel is signed EATON in large letters. Mark 2 is a classic American WW2 era fighting knife; this type was used in combat by the US Army and the Navy men alike in all theaters of the War. This is a rare early MK2 "red spacer" type - only the early MK2s came with red-colored fiber spacers in the handle. Fancy colored fiber spacers were quickly done away with to simplify the wartime production and reduce costs. These early USN Mark 2 "red spacers" are hard-to-find nowadays.
