Description: Established on November 6, 1942 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal honors United States Military personnel who carried out service during World War II in the Pacific Theater between 1941 and 1945. It was 1 of 3 campaign medals for service in World War Two Theaters of Operations. The award was initially a service ribbon; the medal was approved in 1947. Service stars, arrowhead devices, or the Fleet Marine insignia were also issued, when appropriate. Bronze Star: worn for participation in one or more operations or engagements. Silver Star: worn in lieu of 5 bronze stars. Arrowhead: awarded for participation in a beach or ambitious airborne landing. General Douglas MacArthur (1880-1964), Southwest Pacific Theater Commander was the first recipient of this award. DESCRIPTION: Obverse: Two armed soldiers patrolling in the foreground of a palm tree, the ocean, aircraft, and sea craft. Curved along the top, the medal reads “ASIATIC PACIFIC CAMPAIGN". Reverse: Same design as both the American Campaign Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, it features an American bald eagle framed by the dates 1941 – 1945 and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA in text. Ribbon: Yellow with thin vertical stripes of blue, white, and red in the center while thin bands of white, red, and white flank the center stripe.
