WW2 USMC 22nd Marine Original Pacific 1st Ed. 1945 JAPAN Invasion Military Map

Description: Vintage Original WWII WW2 USMC 22nd Marine Original Pacific 1st Edition 1945 Military Issue not for sale to public official invasion map My guess this map was issued to the officers as a constant reminder that the final objective was the mainland of Japanese Army Back in January of 1945 when this 1st edition map was issued for military use only and not for the public the men really thought the next and final assault were the islands of Japan. This is a very nice large map that would display nicely and measures around 40 by 40 inches Does not get more authentic than this for historical items brought back from the fighting in the Pacific theater of operations. I acquired these maps direct from the veteran when he was still alive about 15 years ago. He was an officer and these came directly out of his map case that he carried during the war, so these maps went into action, not some kind of map that was on a desk behind lines. As seen in this large map i40x40 that is dirty and soiled I am sure if you are looking at this auction you are very aware of the actions of the 22nd Marines. Our officer won the bronze star for his actions during this campaign at Eniwetok and Purple heart. I found a letter or copy of a letter sent for recommendation for actions in the field. He was with the 1st Platoon G Company 2nd Battalion 22nd Marines at the head of this letter. This was the 1st map issued to the troops to start preparations for a full scale assault on the mainland of the Japanese Army. My guess it was a map issued to officer to be a constant reminder that Japan would be their final objective The history on this officer is unbelievable ! to say the least. He joined the Marines in 1939. Sent to Alaska. War breaks out then out to the Pacific. By 1942 they were still looking for officer material, since many were getting killed and sent to officer school with a few other hand picked men to Samoa. there he was commissioned to a 2nd Lieutenant and sent into battle. by 1943 he was 1st Lieutenant .His dog tags are fantastic, hand made theater tags. By the end of the war he was a Captain. I always went by to see Al and brought him many gifts and he gave me great stories. With this guy I had to pry the stories out of him, but once he go going we always had a laugh or two. One day I ask him " How did you feel when they dropped the bomb?" WOW did I get a reaction " I FELT CHEATED" He wanted to go into Japan because he lost so many good men and friends along the way . So you are getting a little piece of history from a man who received the Purple Heart - Bronze Star - Good Conduct - Navy Unit Citation- Asia Pacific Theater - European Theater ( Alaska) - United nation & Zoreos Medals for serving for his country.
